We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.

Children seldom misquote. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said.

If you want your children to improve, let them overhear the nice things you say about them to others.

Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.

Amy,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the quotes that you have shared.

I enjoyed this one in particular because it is so true and something that we don't probably think about and do not do very often. All children want to hear you say nice things about them and what a great boost that gives them in their self-esteem. We have started sending home a positive note to children each week about something that they did that was outstanding! They love to see who is getting that award weekly and really work hard to try and get it. Great discipline booster.
Thanks for sharing as we continue on this journey together. You have certainly been a blessing to me and at times, I could not have done this without you! I am so blessed to have you as a friend as well as an encourager! Good luck on your journey and we will get through this!

Amy,
ReplyDeleteThank you again for your inspiring and thoughful blog. I really enjoyed your assessments, especially those on the overwhelming amount of assessments being conducted so early on in schools. I agree with you wholeheartedly that parents are and should be held accountable for their children's performance. Teachers are not the only one who should be expected to make a difference. Sadly, we all know that is often the case.
Thanks for the great quotes as well, they inspired me, particularly the one about a weed bouquet in a chubby fist...I guess I know what my Wife will be getting for Mother's Day!
Cheers,
Jeff
Amy,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reminder from Stacia Tauscher to remember that today is all that matters when it comes to the lives we hold in our hands. I also want to thank you for your comments and words of encouragement during this course! It is wonderful to have supportive classmates in the virtual world, especially when it is so very different from the regular classroom setting. I look forward to interacting with you more in the future. Good luck!
Amy,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this list of wonderful quotes! My favorite are:
We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.
~Stacia Tauscher
and
Children need love most when they deserve it the least.
~Susy Yelh
I think we all worry so much about helping our children succeed that we forget to let them enjoy the present. I think this quote reminds us that we need to lighten up and let them be little for a while.
The second reminds me that I need to be more understanding and not so hard on my boys. Joshua was crying hysterically today in the car because he wanted his juice and chips. I lost my temper and yelled at him to "be quiet and stop crying." This was one of those times when I needed to love him even more, but instead I yelled at him to hush. He had just finished playing t-ball and he had not had a nap today. He was tired and cranky. I should have handled the situation much better.
Amy,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the great quotes. My favorite is the Stacia Tauscher quote: "We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget he is someone today." I have a poster hanging in my center's teacher's room with this quote on it.
I also wanted to thank you for your blog entries during this course. I have really enjoyed them and learned a lot. I look forward to reading more in the future.
